The epidemiology department is one of the oldest HIPH departments, founded in 1956.

The founding head of the department and the first dean of HIPH: Prof. Dr Ahmed Kamal.

Other heads of the department included: Prof. Gerguis Abdelmaseeh, Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Monem El-Zawahry and Prof. Mohamed Helmy Wahdan.
