Quality Assurance in Higher Education (HE) is defined as:
"The means of ensuring that, informed by the mission of the HE institution, academic standards are defined and achieved in line with equivalent standards nationally and internationally, and that the quality of learning opportunities, research and community involvement are appropriate and fulfill the expectationsof the range of stakeholders."
Accreditation is an affirmation and empowerment for Higher Education institutions toobtain a distinguished character and identity and a seal of approval showing that actions takento improve quality are successful.
In this context it is defined as:
"The recognition accorded by a national or international agency (body of accreditation) to an institution, which can demonstrate that its programmes meet acceptable standards, and that it has in place effective systems to ensure the quality and continuing improvement of its academic activities, according to the criteria published by the accrediting body."
The key role of the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) at the High Institute of Public Health (HIPH) is to oversee academic quality assurance for the HIPH in order to assist the HIPH in achieving excellence in its academic programmes, policies and processes, and to eliminate or at least minimise risk of non-compliance with the requirements of the National Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (NQAAA) for Higher Education in Egypt, and further international accrediting bodies later-on.
