Scientific Activities:

 1 - Training courses concerned with identification of snails morphology, anatomy and systematic - based on reading, discussion and practical training in the dissection of snails from Egypt and Africa. Training was held at Danish Bilharziasis Laboratory (DBL), Copenhagen, Denmark for a period of 4 weeks from May 5 till June 6, 1980 (WHO Fellowship). 2 - Visiting WHO Headquarter, Geneva from June 7-8,1980 for briefing of WHO activities in the field of Vector Biology & Control (WHO Fellowship). 3 - Visiting the Center of Overseas Pest Research &control, London for briefing of its activities from June 8-12, 1980( WHO Fellowship). 4 - Participating in workshop on educational planning curriculum development and evaluation. Held at the High Institute of Public Health, Alexandria University under the supervision of WHO from 1 to 4 December 1980. 5 - Public Health Consultant, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ministry of Health from January 1, 1982 to July 30, 1985. 6 - WHO/EMRO Consultant to Yemen Arab Republic to review and evaluate the Schistosomiasis Control Project Activities, draw a plan 6 of action for the project and to assist in training of nationals on the new diagnostic techniques from June 15 to July 26, 1986. 7 - Public Health Consultant, Sultanate of Oman, Ministry of Health from May 14, 1991 to July 31, 1992; supervising the national programme for malaria eradication in the Eastern Region of the Sultanate.  Research Projects as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator: 1 - Principal Investigator of a project entitled "Determination of epidemiological factors causing the persistence of malaria, P.falciparum transmission in Faiyoum Governorate, Egypt". A projectsupported by WHO/EMRO through Joint/EMRO/TDR/CTD Small Grants Programme for Control Oriented Research in Tropical Diseases (Malaria) from January to December 1996. The summary of the project was published in TDR/EMRO Final Report Summary 1995-2000 (Special Issue). 2 - Principal Investigator of Assignment report on Roll Back Malaria (RBM) in Egypt. Malaria situation analysis, strategy and a detailed joint plan of action with time-frame and budget for malaria eradication and prevention for re-introduction for the period 2001- 2002, WHO/EMRO, 2000 (Sponsored by WHO). 3 - Co-Principal Investigator for the evaluation of the immunization coverage program held by MOH in the different governorates in Egypt. The evaluation was done under the supervision of UNICEF in 1990. 4 - Co-Principal Investigator for assessment of health and environmental status at Maawa El-Saydeen, a squatter area in Alexandria. A project funded by UNICEF during 1995. 5 - Co-Principal Investigator for the management and implementation of a project entitled “Assessing health care needs, organization and utilization in some rural communities (El-Zohra, El-Lakania, El- Sheikh Aly, Sera and Mamel El-Zogag villages) in Behera Governorate”. The project was done in collaboration with Behera Governorate and NGOs during 1996-1998. The objectives were: To assess the health problems prevailing in the studied communities.9 To analyze the various environmental, behavioral and socio-economicfactors that contribute to these problems/ To assess the adequacy of available health services, quantitatively,qualitatively and organizationally. To assess the volume and pattern of health services utilization by thecommunity. To assess the satisfaction of the community with health services available.To outline appropriate intervention strategies to improve the healthcondition of the studied communities. 6 - Principle Investigator for the assessment of health, environmental and social status in one of the squatter area in west of Alexandria ( Karmouz ). A project was done in collaboration with UNICEF& NGOs in 1999. 7 - Co-Principal Investigator for re-assessment of health and environmental status at Maawa El-Saydeen, a squatter area in Alexandria.
